Topic: To Avoid Error – Have The Right Interpretation Of
The Scripture (16)
Continued from last episode-
Preamble: There is obvious gross interpretation of the
Scripture as a result of the way and manner the Scripture has been studied and
read. The inappropriate studying and reading of the Scripture has led to wrong
interpretation of the Scripture and that has resulted into wrong application of
what the Scripture says.
Anchor Text:
“And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the
prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest?”
Acts 8:30
Text of Interest:
“But ye have not so learned Christ;”
Ephesians 4:20
However, it is important again that one should take note
of the use of the term ‘in the light of Christ’ by me in some of the
expressions I made above. And the question one can ask is this, ‘but Christ
didn’t exist in the old order and His name was not mentioned literally so, why
studying in the light of Him? Remember, I rightly pointed out that the
Scripture is Christocentric and everything about the Scripture is about Christ
because He existed in the old order in symbols and physical ordinances and
practices. This is why is important that the Scripture is rightly divided,
though the word of truth but the truth must be ascertained rightly.
Note that the Scripture is the body of truth therefore,
while studying the Scripture one must understand that not everything said in
the Scripture is the truth. This is important and should be accepted because is
a detailed book that recorded the activities of many characters and these
characters at a given time made some statements and these statements were
rightly stated in the Scripture. However, so many of these statements are not
statements of truth. Therefore, one can aptly say that in the Bible, everything
is truly stated but not every statement is a statement of truth. This is where
it is important to decipher which one is the statement of truth since all were
truly stated.
The only way to decipher which one is the truth is
firstly for one to understand what or who the truth is because without
understanding what or who the truth is, it is going to be tough to sieve out
the truth. Notice that no one has ever claimed that he is the truth except one
man and He declared that He is the truth.
“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the
life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”
John 14:6
Therefore, while studying the Scripture is important to
study all the statements made by other characters by juxtaposing those
statements side by side with the truth and if what they said could not match
the disposition of the truth, such a statement though truly stated is not the
truth. Since Jesus Christ is the truth, He has become the prism and the
yardstick through which every other statement made in the bible could be
ascertained as truth or not. It doesn’t matter if the statement was made before
His manifestation in the human flesh. This is because whatever that Moses in
the law and the prophets wrote was about Him. And if those things written about
Him didn’t fall in line with His disposition in His manifestation, it means
such statements should not be taken as truth and as a result should be
discarded period!
That was why when He manifested; He started correcting
some statements that were made that didn’t fall in line with who He actually
represents no matter who said it.
“Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye,
and a tooth for a tooth. But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but
whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.”
Matthew 5:38-39
Simply put, what Jesus is saying in the verses above is
that whoever that made that statement in verse 38 is wrong and I am correcting
him in verse 39. Why? Because that statement didn’t represents the truth.
Therefore, I am the truth and I am here to give you the rightly divided word of
the truth.
Remember no one can ascertain the truth while in error!
