Case Study Text:
“And
so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was
made a quickening spirit. Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but
that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual. The first man is
of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven.”

As stated earlier, Jesus has come into
this earth to interpret the law and all that was said concerning Him in the
prophets that is in typology and symbols. So one of the things we should be
cognizant of here is that everything He was promising His disciples will only
take place after His resurrection. And also, whatever that He becomes will for
sure take place after He must have resurrected. Now by this time He was still
the only begotten son of God but after His resurrection He will no longer be
because “Therefore, He says “Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of
wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it
bringeth forth much fruit.” After His resurrection He brought many sons unto
glory and became the firstborn from the dead (Col 1:18, Rom 8:29, Heb 2:10 –
12).
As many therefore, that believes in
Him are called sons of God, having the same parenthood with Him. As a result of
this He gave birth to the church of the firstborn, which is very unique and
different from the gathering in the temples and synagogues every Sabbath day. A
church established by the New Covenant pivoted in His blood (life). The
Firstborn from the dead is the Last Adam (Grk Prototokos meaning the model), in
whose image the believer is born, the believer is not born after the image of
the incarnate Jesus (The Second Adam).
He was born from the womb of death,
and as a result, He is the First to be born-again, that is the fulfillment of
the prophecy in (Ps 2:7). Therefore, every one born-again takes this identity
by being born from the womb of sin because every sinner died in sin (Eph 2:1).
A sinner who hears the gospel and has faith in the gospel and believes in it,
immediately resurrected from the womb of sin and becomes alive in Him. It is
after His resurrection that the tag or title of Image of God is given to Him;
the incarnate Jesus was never called the Image of God but Son of Man.
Like I earlier stated, in the law and
prophets, there are typologies and symbols that signifies His future office,
His character and position. After His resurrect He is to become a Priest but
not in the order of the Levites but in the order of Melchisedec (Gen 14:18 –
20). This priest called Melchisedec is also known as the king of Salem and has
no trace of his lineage and because he has no beginning and ending his priesthood
is an unending priesthood (Heb 7:1 – 3), this man typified the Priesthood of
Jesus. The Christ’s Priesthood was not
ordained in the order of the Levites, which implies that His Priesthood is not
going to be a physical or carnal type but a spiritual or eternal type. So His Priesthood
is called an eternal priesthood because it is an unending priesthood
established on a sacrifice not made with the blood of the animals as in the
order of the Levites priesthood.
The blood of Jesus Christ is the seal
of the sacrifice for His Priesthood, and this is one prominent factor
associated with His death, that His own blood will be used for the propitiation
of sin of the whole world. It is important to point out that since His Priesthood
is not earthly therefore, there is no need to carry out conducts and activities
of priesthood by physical method, because His tabernacle is not earthly. His
tabernacle dwells in the heavenly as a result His Priesthood activities are to
be carried out in heaven. The blood of animal sacrifices in the old order is shed
at the altar on the mercyseat; this implies that Jesus didn’t shed His blood
on earth but in heaven where the mercyseat of His tabernacle is located. Also,
the blood of animals are used to cleanse the vessels and utensils of the altar,
in the vein His blood is used to cleanse the utensils of the heavenly
tabernacle, because the sin of the first Adam corrupted the heavenly altar as
well (Heb 9:21 – 24).
His Priesthood service also includes
carrying out intercession for man, His presence in heaven by implication stands
and plea for man. This service is an eternal service that has no ending; (Heb
9:24 – 28) unlike the earthly priest whose intercession is temporary as a
result a yearly sacrifice is being made on the behalf of people.
