“But ye are come unto mount
Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an
innumerable company of angels, to the general assembly and church of the
firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the
spirits of just men made perfect, And to Jesus the mediator of the new
covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that
of Abel.”
Heb 12:22 – 24 (KJV)
Again, it is interesting to reiterate
here that the word translated filthy communication is the Greek word aischrologia
which also can be translated as vile communication in the modern day language;
it has much to do with gossiping. One is said to communicate in a vile manner
when he or she goes about spreading false news or concocted news about
something or an individual in order to make himself or herself better or to
gain favour or just for being evil or malicious. Now, such is vile
communication! This kind of attribute should not be seen in the life of any
believer because the believer is not made to spread false or evil news but to
spread the good news which is the gospel of Christ. Notice that false news
destabilizes and causes devastation in the life of the receiver but good news
builds and restores the receiver, and the believer has been called to build not
to destroy. In other words false news takes life away from an individual but
good news gives life to the receiver, and that’s a exactly what believers have
been called to do, to give life to people through the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Because as many that receives the gospel of Jesus has received life and not
just life but eternal life.
Therefore, believers are ‘purveyors’ of
good news which means at any given time the news that is sourced out of them is
just good and not false. Whenever they open their mouth what will flow is good
news, no matter what the situation is, they change it to good news, because
they are a container of good news. Hallelujah! So, instead of spreading false
news a believer should put off such from himself and put on good news which he
or she has been created to disperse and dispense to a sundry without boundaries
and offence to anyone. This is what Apostle Paul was saying in his epistle to
the Corinthians and I quote “And all
things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath
given to us the ministry of reconciliation; To wit, that God was in Christ,
reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them;
and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.” (2 Corinthians
5:18-19). This is the calling of each and every believer to reconcile men
to God. Meaning to bring men to God and making them to be at peace with God. The
truth is that when one’s mouth is full of evil speaking or gossips there is no
way he can be able to convince anyone to believe in Christ because people are
going to judge by the attribute he portrays. Evil speaking also involves
confessing negative things always, whenever something good crops up on the side
of someone else inasmuch as it is not from your side; you seek to dent it and
say things that are appalling about it. Also when one becomes very pessimistic
about things in life, the words that come out of his or her mouth will always
be negative and such does not come from God.
However, Apostle Paul went ahead to
instruct believers that they should ‘lie not one to another’; this is the key
of everything and of all the instructions he gave to believers. Lie not one to
another means do not be deceptive, do not say the opposite of what you supposed
to say, do not interpret and portray a life Jesus has not given you. Is another
way to say be who Jesus has made you to be, identify and acknowledge all the good
things that’s in you (Philemon 1:6) and made them manifest. Do not manifest a
character that is not found in Christ, having it in mind that you have been
created in the image of Christ (Colossians 3:10) therefore, should replicate
Him any time any day. Each believer is born in Christ to copy and display
Christ, that’s whatever he sees in Christ is what he manifests to the world and
nothing more nothing less, if not it becomes a deception. This statement ‘lie
not to one another’ is very vivacious and pivotal in the spirit of oneness that
should be abiding in the church of Jesus Christ, because how much truth that is
in the church will definitely determine the level of spiritual progress the
church will attend.
Overtly, it is a known fact that lie
does not build, it weakens the fabric of unity, it destroys the sweet sap in a
relationship, instead of building trust it builds suspicion in and among
people. So, in any organization where lies have taken root, there is no amount of
insight, knowledge, wisdom and finance that will be poured into it and it will
progress, because the presence of lies means destruction and instability.
Therefore, there is no way a believer should be the one to champion a life that
is full of lies, it’s not in his or her nature and should be put off. Because
one single word to characterize the put off attributes is flesh and a believer
in Christ cannot be found in flesh. The believer in Christ is buried in Christ
therefore the nerves/desire to sin is dead. He is awake to righteousness!
