Topic: To Avoid Error – Have The Right Interpretation Of
The Scripture (14)
Continued from last episode-
Preamble: There is obvious gross interpretation of the
Scripture as a result of the way and manner the Scripture has been studied and
read. The inappropriate studying and reading of the Scripture has led to wrong
interpretation of the Scripture and that has resulted into wrong application of
what the Scripture says.
Anchor Text:
“And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the
prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest?”
Acts 8:30
Text of Interest:
“But ye have not so learned Christ;”
Ephesians 4:20
Furthermore, the Bible is a compilation of several books
and these books are written by forty different authors and at different times
and dispensations. So the Scripture is a book of many books brought and
compiled together for a single purpose and reality. As in the case of other
books, the Scripture has its writer and its own main character or object; so
while studying the Scripture, it is important to do that in the light of the main
character or object. Let’s see what it says about its main character;
“Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to
believe all that the prophets have spoken. Ought not Christ to have suffered
these things, and to enter into his glory? And beginning at Moses and all the
prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning
himself.”
Luke 24:25-27
Also
see;
“Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have
eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.”
John 5:39
Whatever therein in the books of the Scripture is written
because of a person called Christ. Therefore, the man Christ is the main
character of the Scripture and as matter of fact if one is to study the
Scripture, he or she should do that centered in the light of the character who
is Christ. So many things that look obscured in the Scripture are so because
the one studying them has not done that in the light of Christ. When one
studies the Scripture in the light of Christ, every obscurity is brought bare.
For this reason, many wrong interpretations have come into existence and it is
in our hands now to correct these misinterpretations in the light of Christ.
Another thing to consider is the inspirer of the writing
of the Scripture. Like I said earlier, there are human authors who wrote down
the content of the Scripture, but the truth is that they never did that own
their own accord. They were inspired and motivated to by someone who gave them
the inspiration and they did justice to whatever inspiration they have received
from Him. Apostle Peter writing in one of his epistles declared it to his
audience how the inspiration of the Scripture came into being.
“For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of
man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.”
2 Peter 1:21
Also see;
“Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's
wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things
with spiritual.”
1 Corinthians 2:13
Since the Holy Ghost indirectly authored the Scripture,
it is important therefore that someone who is studying the Scripture should as
a matter of fact consult Him each time he or she flips across the pages of the
Scripture. This is very vital because He knows all the references you might
need in order to comprehend what you read and again, he knows and can interpret
better those words which human understanding cannot phantom.
However, remember no one can ascertain the truth while in
error!

Till I come your way again, keep on basking in the Arena
