Text of Interest:

“But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.”

                     1 Cor 2:9 – 10 (KJV)
Case Study Text:

“And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit. Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual. The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven.”
1 Cor 15:45 – 47 (KJV)

It would have become like water poured on an igneous rock if Jesus didn’t pray for His disciples. The prayer He made is very vital in the sense that it helped all that He said to come to fruition in the life of His disciples. It is worthy to note that this is the only place throughout the gospels that a comprehensive prayer made by Jesus was recorded (Jn 17). This prayer is known as His high Priestly prayer, which outlined submissions in supplications in prayer concerning His disciples and their wellbeing as well as their mission here on earth. In this prayer, it was reiterated by Him that He was with the Father and there is a glory He possessed while He was with Him and the hour for that glory to be restored has come. From the prayer, it was known that to know and believe him and the Father is eternal life, which suggests that for one to obtain an eternal life the knowledge of Jesus and the Father is required.
However, in the prayer, He rendered a stewardship account of how well He has kept His disciples and agreed that it was the Father that gave them to Him. This surmises that none of His disciples came to Him by choice but by the will of the Father; because they didn’t choose Him but He did choose them (Jn 15:16, 19). As He prayed for His disciples He said that the prayer is not for them alone but also for those that will believe in Him through their preaching. This signifies that whatever Jesus went through He had all the believers in mind while going through them and that includes me and you reading this piece. Again He made it known that His disciples belong to God and that they are separated from the world, though they are in the world. This implies that He has cultured His disciples to work in the Kingdom of God system, which is quite different from what is obtainable from the system of the world. These systems are parallel systems and of course do not have any thing in common, no wonder the conflict is there whenever He comes in contact with the people of this world who cannot help but be distraughted in His ways.
He went ahead to consummately say that He received glory from the Father, but that same glory He has given to the disciples. Meaning whatever it is that made Him special, unique, magnificent, glorious, wonderful, excellent mention it; He has given it to the disciples. Also, He prayed that the disciples should be one and that is, for them to be in unison or with one mind because if there is division among them, whatever He had labored to put together will definitely become a waste and on the other hand, if they continue as one, definitely His labor here will bear fruits. And as a matter of fact, He prayed that the disciples and Him and the Father should be one, this is the hallmark of it all, because the unity of the disciples and Jesus and the Father will definitely build strong bond that will establish the Kingdom of God here on earth (Jn 17, 1Cor 3:9, 2 Cor 6:1).
However, for the salvation of man to be completed, Jesus knew that the Second Adam must die in order to pave way for the Third Adam. So He was ready to hand Himself over not because the powers of the darkness with their human agents can do anything if the time hasn’t ripe for Him. It is interesting to know that when Jesus declared that He will lay down His life and he will pick up by Himself that is in compliance with the Father’s will. His death will not be based on His own will; that is why He echoed this statement “O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done.” Meaning that His death earned approval from the Father and that makes it a suitable sacrifice for sin. If He had died based on His own will, it would have become a disaster in that His death would not have become adequate to pay for the sin of the world (Isa 53:6, Matt 26:42).
The process of arrest and judgment that He received really typified and identified with the stipulations of the prophecies made as regards to His death. This for sure indicates that His death is not a fluke but foreordained plan of God (Isa 53:7, 12). And on the cross He declared that it is finished, meaning that the old order has been brought to an end, the fulfillment of the Old Testament ordinances is established then He proceed to establish the New Testament or the New order (Heb 9:16 – 20)
