Topic: To Avoid Error – Have The Right Interpretation Of
The Scripture (4)
Continued from last episode-
Preamble: There is obvious gross interpretation of the
Scripture as a result of the way and manner the Scripture has been studied and
read. The inappropriate studying and reading of the Scripture has led to wrong
interpretation of the Scripture and that has resulted into wrong application of
what the Scripture says.
Anchor Text:
“And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the
prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest?”
Acts 8:30
Text of Interest:
“But ye have not so learned Christ;”
Ephesians 4:20
In most cases is not that people are not learning or
studying as the case maybe, they are and even zealously doing that but the
problem has been their inability to possess the withal to accept the truth
whenever it comes their way. So you found people holding adamantly to some kind
of suggestive knowledge that is not rooted in the word. People are zealously
learning but hardly come to the knowledge of the truth because they have closed
their heart against the truth but the truth is that one can do nothing against the truth but for the truth (2 Corinthians 13:8). And Apostle Paul warned of such people as he
wrote to Timothy.
“Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge
of the truth.”
2 Timothy 3:7
One side effect of this character is that people who get
involved in it do always resist the truth whenever it is taught and not only
that they resist it they also do not allow others who would like to accept it
to accept it. This is not unusual, because it has been the case even in the
days of Moses, he had his own fair share of this situation and Apostle Paul
told Timothy that “Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also
resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.” (2
Timothy 3:8). The good news Apostle Paul announced is that “But they shall
proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as theirs
also was.” (2 Timothy 3:9). This can only be made possible in this present day
we are if only all well-meaning believers who desire to know and accept the
truth will join hands and expose all the wrong interpretation of the Scripture.
It is important again to state that is good to go all out and bring people to
church but it is better to bring people and expose them to the knowledge of the
truth. This is the desire of God, that
all men should be saved and not only that they are saved, they should come to
the knowledge of the truth. Apostle Paul declared so to Timothy as he wrote
him;
“For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our
Saviour; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of
the truth.”
(1Timothy 2:3-4)
Therefore, the knowledge of the truth becomes a paramount
issue here; it implies that people are derailing because they lack the
knowledge of the truth. So if there is an error it is because the one handling
the word of truth has decided knowingly and unknowingly to impart the wrong
knowledge to his audience, hence the need for the right knowledge to be
imparted.
