Understanding The Three Adams (1)
“But
as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into
the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. But
God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all
things, yea, the deep things of God.”
1 Cor 2:9 – 10 (KJV)
Case Study Text:
“And
so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was
made a quickening spirit. Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but
that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual. The first man is
of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven.”

Cor 15:45 – 47 (KJV)
How insightful and immensely as
believers we grasp on the revelation of who the three Adams mentioned in the
bible are and what their representation is to us will definitely enable us to
run our Christian race effectively and achieve the desired goals. A proper
knowledge of the existence and manifestation of the three Adams would mean that
one is building his or her Christian life on a right platform especially as it
regards to the issue of salvation and vice versa. That would also mean an
understanding of what the purpose of God is for man and why He created man the
way He created him and what His expected end for man is.
Therefore, it is very pertinent that
we decipher and divulge who they are and what they stand for. The aforementioned
text, which is the case study text contains the term First Adam, Last Adam and
Second Adam. The occurrence of these terms or names is not for the sake of mere
formality but for purposes that have great impact on the existence of man.
Notice that the term Last Adam is used in the text instead of third Adam, which
points out that their coming into existence, is not in the numbering or serial
form but an indication for their function. The word function is a key word we
should be mindful of because it will help us in understanding where we are
going in this series. Let me also point out that the format of their naming
shows that there will be no fourth or fifth Adam since we have gotten the last
Adam.
In the book of Genesis, we saw a God
that created the heaven and the earth (Gen 1:1) and decided to create a being
in His own image, and handed them over to this being to take care of them. This
is an indication that what prompted the creation of the heaven and the earth
was the existence and manifestation of man. So the need for the creation of the
heaven and the earth wouldn’t have risen if the existence of man is not in the
picture or considered. It is apt therefore, to say that the heaven and the earth
were created for man and as a matter of fact God do not need any of them for none
of them can contain Him! Simply because God cannot live in any space and cannot
exist within the parameters of time.
God in the demonstration of His
dexterity and aptness in creation molded or carved the structure of man out of
the soil and breathed into his nostrils and the man became a living soul (Gen
2:7). The breath is called the breath of life, which suggests that in the
breath is life, without the breath, man wouldn’t have gotten life. And not only
man, anything that has life got its life from God who is the originator of Life
(Jn 1:4). This suggests that God has life in himself and never received from
any source. So the man that God created became a living soul and was a complete
man in the scene that he was created with absolute and astute wisdom and as
well as with a will. God creating man and giving him a will is the inception of
human right instilled and enshrine in man,in this will, given to man is the
privilege to make choice. The ability to make choice makes man an entity of its
own, which means he stands out as an independent individual that has the right
to take decision on what he wants and desired.
God created man and gave him such a
tenacity and temerity in order for man to have the ability to exercise himself
within the peripheries of his own will. One wonders why God didn’t make man
like a robot, well, firstly because He is God and no one questions His
authority, secondly because He has the initiative to create and as a result the
decision is on Him. And mostly, God wants a man that will submit his own will
to Him without being wheedled or coerced to do so. Therefore, God created a
being that He can within a span of time reason with, work with and build things
with (Isa 1:18, 1 Cor 3:9, 2 Cor 6:, Job 23:4).
However, God declared man the king or
His regent on the earth; which implies that God made him the owner of the earth
in that he received from God the power to have dominion over the earth and over
everything inside it. With such privilege whatever man says in the earth is
bound to happen (Gen 1:26, 28, 2:19). And with this power man can explore the
things that are in the earth and transform them to what he likes and has the
ability to change the status quo of the earth as the caretaker of the earth (
Gen 2:15). It is important to note that with the ability of man to make choice,
he can decide what he wants and in this decision his well-being on the earth is
established or denied.
